It offers a clear and concise vocabulary for describing what voices can do and powerful exercises that allow voices to realize their full potential – be it for better speaking or for better singing. It is a practical strategy for singers, actors, executives, teachers, professional speakers, voice therapists — everyone with a voice!
Gillian is an Estill Master Trainer (2006) and Scotland’s only Estill Mentor & Course Instructor with Testing Privileges.(2016). She presented “Estill in the Curriculum” at the 2011 World Voice Symposium, performed at the prestigious Harvard Club in Boston at the 2013 event and presented “Sing To Breathe” at the 2019 event at King’s College, London.
Introductory Events and Workshops
Introductory Workshops are a great way to try the “Estill Experience” on for size. Events might be as brief as an hour-long presentation. Workshops can extend from a few hours to a few days, and often explore the Estill Voice Training™ approach to one aspect of vocal study or performance, such as Belting, Musical Theatre, Opera, Acting, Teaching and Audition Preparation.
Level One: Figures for Voice Control™
Level One: Figures for Voice Control™ teaches the Craft of speaking and singing. During this course students will be introduced to 13 vocal structures that influence voice quality. Each structure has different options for control that produce different vocal sound effects and sensations. The skills developed in Level One will help you add strength, clarity and stamina to your voice!
Level Two: Figure Combinations for Six Voice Qualities™
Level Two builds on the knowledge and skills from Level One by asking students to combine different options learned through the Figures in “recipes” for six “basic” voice qualities. These qualities – Speech, Falsetto, Sob, Twang, Opera, and Belting – appear as specifically defined by Jo Estill. Figure Combinations for Six Voice Qualities™ gives you a better understanding of the voice’s limitless possibilities, along with how to keep it vibrant and healthy.
On completion of Levels One and Two, McLaren Scott Vocals can also mentor and examine clients wishing to pursue their Certificate of Figure Proficiency (EFP) and Estill Master Trainer certification (EMT).

“I have sung from an early age using different vocal coaches along the way. However, having spent time with Gillian McLaren Scott I learned more about my craft in five days on the course than in my whole years of training. Gillian is a fantastic coach making all vocal goals achievable.”
